Dad says “No Dinero,” So 9-Year Old Costa Rica Girl Starts Her Own Website

September 8th, 2007 · No Comments · General News

When nine-year old Jasmine Arboleda asked her Dad for money and he said “No,” that’s when she decided she needed a way to earn some of her own.

Her 52-year old father told Jasmine that she was old enough to figure out how to earn a little money herself. He then proceeded to her about how he earned money by selling lemonade and delivering newspapers when he was a kid.

The Costa Rican third-grader has been using the internet since kindergarten. When she was six, she ordered a necklace on the internet, which was shipped from Thailand. After this experience, she decided to earn money by starting a website of her own. According to Jasmine, “I want to sell cool stuff for girls.”

It took several months to convince her mom and dad, but she was insistent and they finally agreed to help her get started.

Her father helped with some of the technical details and jasminezone.com was launched a few weeks ago.

Since the website was created, Jasmine has been busy selecting products and designing the website, which specializes in gifts for girls and their parents.
